Becoming a Soccer Referee is a great way to learn more about the game of soccer, see the game in a new way and earn money too!


The Madison Area Soccer Referee Unit www.masru.org holds USSF Entry Level Referee Courses each winter/spring. 

Entry Level 8 Course Description

You must be 12 years old or older at the start of the spring season (usually the beginning of April) to attend the course.

The entry level training course is a 16 hour course taught over two days. It is designed to provide entry-level referee skills and information through classroom and field training for candidates. Emphasis is on preparing for youth program participation. Field emphasis is on practice of specific procedures. Administration of the USSF written test is included.

Successful Referee Candidates younger than 14 will earn a Level 9 USSF Referee Badge. Successful Referee Candidates 14 years-old or older will earn a Level 8 USSF Referee Badge.

Oregon is in the Capital District.

 Although becoming a USSF Soccer Referee is simple, there are also start-up expenses.

The Entry Level Referee Course fee is $30 to MASRU.

The annual USSF Referee Registration fee is $40 to USSF.

You will also need to purchase a uniform and some basic equipment, (approximately $50 to $70+), before you referee your first game.
